What is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word success? I immediately think of vast amounts of wealth – Bill Gates level of wealth. It might be because I work in the finance industry, but I think that definition is embedded in American culture.

However, the question “What does success feel like?” elicits a very different response from most people. For me, success feels like remarkable health and strength, like time doesn’t exist because every moment is so much fun, like having meaningful relationships with loved ones and making a difference in someone’s life every day.

When I ask this question of clients, I hear things like:

“Doing something impactful and enjoying every minute of it.”

“Having the ability to control my own schedule. “

“Being in the moment… instead of constantly planning for the next thing.”

That is why pursuing material wealth only for the sake of having money is not fulfilling for most people. The important thing is to know why you are building wealth and to make sure wealth serves your dreams and the matters closest to your heart.
